Grantsmanship 101: Finding Fundable Ideas at the NIH

On-Demand Webinar available in CD, MP4 or PDF Transcript

Peer reviewers have shared time and time again their lack of enthusiasm for proposals which do very little to meet the primary scientific mission or interest of the funding agency. Don’t make this mistake. This might be your only chance to get the funding you deserve, so getting reviewers excited about your work from the get-go is not just important, it is necessary. So where should you start?
.
Knowing what the NIH does and does NOT fund is very critical. This information can be found using several different tools at the NIH such as NIH RePORTER. Furthermore, understanding the NIH strategic plan for 2016-2020 and focusing on NIH’s priorities are key to your success.
.

During this 60-minute Webinar, Dr. Christopher Dant will discuss what type of research NIH is currently focusing on, as well as show you how and where you can find specific funding ideas and opportunities at the NIH. He will also discuss some of the lesser known institutes at the NIH that have strong funding portfolios. Clearly understanding NIH’s funding priorities will strongly strengthen your proposal, whether it be a research (R) grant, career award (K) grant, or other mechanism. So don’t wait, register today!

5 Key Take-Aways:

  • What NIH does not and does fund.
  • Understanding the NIH 2016-2020 Strategic Plan that outlines areas of research of high priority to NIH and how to use this to your own advantage in writing a grant.
  • Understanding some lesser understood and known NIH institutes that have robust funding opportunities.
  • Learn the NIH RePORTER tool to maximize your knowledge of the type of research being conducted in your specific field.
  • Learn how and where to target language in your grant to meet specific NIH priorities that will raise the attention of reviewers.
Who Should Attend:

  • This live Webinar will apply to everyone in academia who must write a grant in their area(s) of expertise.
